Mattel is celebrating Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, with a new Barbie inspired by the holiday, which officially begins on Oct. 31 and concludes on Nov. 1.

Indian fashion designer Anita Dongre was asked to help Mattel create a new Barbie doll inspired by the Hindu holiday of Diwali. The doll was released on Oct. 4.

Mattel's first Diwali Barbie doll, unveiled Friday. Diwali, the five-day Hindu festival of lights, is observed by more than 1 billion people worldwide.

Mattel Creations collaborated with Indian fashion designer Anita Dongre to release the doll four weeks before Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, which is celebrated Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
