A Colorado attorney described a previous case involving broken window locks as a “phenomenal risk of catastrophe” in a letter to the Salvation Army in February 2024.

Facilities staff told Denver Mayor Mike Johnston during his weekly mayoral update meeting about precautions they are putting in place for windows at a hotel-turned-shelter after a child fell six stories from a window.

A child fell six stories from a former Denver hotel near East Hampden Avenue and South Poplar Street and suffered multiple injuries, but is alive, the Denver Fire Department said.
