More than 180 years of horse racing came to an end in Singapore on Saturday, as the Singapore Turf Club hosted its final race day before its track is handed back to the government to provide land for new homes.

Home of Singapore horse racing since 1842, the STC marked the end of its 182-year chapter in local history with a grand farewell featuring 10 races, culminating in the SGD 1.38 million Grand Singapore Gold Cup.

About 10,000 people turned up at the Singapore Turf Club in Kranji on Saturday (Oct 5) to witness its last race meeting. It marked the end of horse racing in Singapore after a run of 182 years. The land that is home to the club is set to be redeveloped in a few years' time.
