The eye of Hurricane Helene hit the south Georgia base, cutting power and water. Airmen stepped up to help each other dig out.

MacDill Air Force Base south of Tampa was swamped by Helene’s storm surge, and may see worse flooding from Milton.

MacDill houses the U.S. Central Command, which oversees military operations in the Middle East, parts of Africa, Central Asia and parts of South Asia. It also houses the U.S. Special Operations Command, which oversees all special operations, such as the killing of Osama bin Laden and capture of Saddam Hussein.

The base is still clearing debris left over from Helene, and planes moved out of state for that storm only returned to MacDill this past week.

MacDill Air Force Base is evacuating aircraft and some personnel as another storm approaches the base, which is situated in the most vulnerable Zone A evacuation zone. Like the recent Hurricane Helene,

Florida residents in and near Tampa Bay are strongly urged to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Milton, a Category 5 storm that could increase its intensity.

They were to supposed to fly back on October 7, but their return was delayed by Hurricane Milton. These are today's mortgage and refinance rates. Rates are trending back up, though they remain low compared to earlier this year.
