PHOENIX — Hours after exercising manager Bob Melvin’s contract option for 2026, the Giants were outslugged by the Arizona Diamondbacks, 8-2, to drop their fourth consecutive game and their seventh of their last eight contests.

The former Giants catcher is in his 22nd season as an MLB manager and his second in San Francisco, where his offense has sputtered of late.

The San Francisco Giants picked up the 2026 option on manager Bob Melvin's contract on Tuesday. Melvin, 63, is in his second season guiding the Giants. The team has a 45-40 record entering Tuesday night's road game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Giants scored twice in the second inning Tuesday night and then not again as the Arizona Diamondbacks rolled to an 8-2 win. The loss was the fourth straight for San Francisco.
